As the snow starts melting and flowers are coming alive, this is a good time to inspect the outside the outside of your home. This will help to keep your investment in the best possible shape.

1.Gutters and downspouts

Gutters full of leaves and debris can cause water to overflow and go under the shingles to damage the wood underneath and even cause leaks in the attic. And if they weren’t cleaned in the fall, they could have froze and the extra weight could have pulled the gutter away from the roof. Remove all debris and inspect the gutter for any separation.

Downspouts can also be clogged by leaves and debris , causing the water to backup into the gutter. Also if the opening at the bottom is crimped or damaged causing flow to be impeded. Check for both clogs and damage and also make sure your gutter hangers are secure and installed.

2. Inspect and replace damaged or worn out caulking around windows and doors and skylights.

This is also a good time to inspect your windows and doors. Loose and worn out caulking can cause more headaches than not , due to water from storms getting into the interior walls and drywall. This is an inexpensive fix to big potential costs later. Especially sky lights!

3. This is a good time to call you A/C contractor to inspect your AC.

While temperatures are still cool enough, its a great time to call your A/C contractor for an inspection. They are usually nominal in cost, and definitely worth it. There is nothing worse than having your AC break in the heat of summer, and you can’t get an appointment for weeks!

4. Clean out leaves and debris from gardens and walkways.

This is also a good time to clean up yard debris from the winter months. Its cooler and its a good time to remove the dead leaves and growth, to allow for the new. Its also a good time to aerate the lawn and fertilize for the coming season. This keeps curb appeal pleasing to the eye. And the area clear of a trip hazard.

5. Inspect decks and patio areas.

Inspect your outside entertaining areas. Clean out debris and power wash areas. Check to see if they may need a fresh coat of paint or waterproofing. Mold and mildew can grow over winter and cause damage to decks if not addressed. Also check and see if there are any sales on solar lighting or new flower pots and decor!

6. Clean siding or power wash exterior of the home .

A power washer is a great investment. It takes all the hard work out cleaning the exterior of your home. It removes all spider webs and mold, mildew and dirt. And is a great way to give your home a fresh look! Now stand at the curb and revel in all your hard work! It was definitely worth it ! Maybe add some new flowers and mulch to top it off!
